The Meaning of Venter

There's been a lot of discussion since the late May announcement by Venter and his team that they had developed a synthetic genome. The voices have come from those for and against, and those just wondering what it's all about. The following attempts to provide a mix of all the opinions, for the purposes of encouraging thought and debate about this development.

Craig Venter describes his discovery to the journal, Science.

Quirks and Quarks host, Bob McDonald explains it.

Genome Atlantic's sister organization, the Ontario Genomics Institute, comments on it.

Some say it's interesting science, but nothing to worry about.
